Procedures • Criteria • Selection Process

The 2007-08 College of Marin Foundation Scholarship Application will be available on January 18, 2008 *, the first day of Spring classes at the College of Marin and can be picked up at the Finacial Aid offices of both campuses. The application criteria, procedures and an application form follow for you to use. Also included are some tips for you to use to compose the essay component of your application.

The College of Marin Foundation is a non-profit organization of dedicated leaders from the community who support the College of Marin by raising funds for students and College programs. These funds are donated by individuals, foundations, businesses and organizations in Marin County.

Each year the College of Marin Foundation awards a variety of scholarships to College of Marin students. The scholarships range from $150-$1200 and are awarded each Spring for the following academic year. Awards are available for graduating students, students who will be continuing their studies at College of Marin, and students transferring to 4-year schools.

Application Procedures:
  • All application materials must be complete and received in the Financial Aid Office at either the Kentfield or Indian Valley campus by 12:00 NOON on Friday, March 7, 2008.
  • The College of Marin Foundation Scholarship Committee reviews applications.
  • Recipients are selected on the basis of financial need, academic performance and individual merit, in addition to criteria that may have been specified by the scholarship donor.
  • Criteria varies according to the wishes of the donor and may require that the recipient be enrolled in a particular major or meet other qualifications.

 

Application Criteria to be eligible for scholarship:
  • Completion of at least 15 units at C.O.M. in a major or General Education.
  • C.O.M. cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.75.
  • Be enrolled in at least 6 units at C.O.M. at the time of application.
Application Process:

    All application materials must be complete and received in the Financial Aid Office at either the Kentfield or Indian Valley campus by 12:00 NOON on Friday, March 7, 2008.

  1. The completed and signed application form (3 pages).
  2. One letter of recommendation from a College of Marin Faculty member who is aware of your current work. If you have a major, the recommendation should be from a faculty member within your major field.
  3. A one-page statement about your educational and career goals, your personal achievements, and why you are deserving of a scholarship.

Note: For greater legibility, it is recommended that applications be typed, or printed using black ink. The quality of your application will reflect the thoughtfulness and effort you put into it.

Future Awards Ceremony

At the Awards Ceremony, recipients will be notified which scholarship they have received, the amount, and the procedures for receiving the scholarship.
